Atlanta Dream falls to the Sky 96-98
Coming off a 90-84 win over Indiana, the Dream came back to Atlanta trying to keep the momentum going, but unfortunately Chicago Sky had new plans. Angel McCoughtry scored 33 points off 50 percent shooting, but with 6 Sky players in double digits, Chicago was able to clinch their playoff birth with a 98-96 victory.
The Dream put on an exciting show for the 6800 people in attendance Saturday night. There were 12 lead changes all the way down to the 2-minute mark. Atlanta led 91-90 with 1:45 to go with a bank shot from McCoughtry.
Down 96-94 with 16 seconds left, McCoughtry missed two floaters that could’ve tied the game. The crowd was on their feet screaming “DE-FENSE” with hands clenched but de Souza and the Sky walked away with the win.
Despite the loss, it was an emotional night for Atlanta Dream fans as they honored their former center Erika de Souza with a standing ovation and video tribute. De Souza was traded in late July, but she was truly an asset to the team averaging 8.6 points and 7.5 rebounds in the first half of the season.
