So where’s Raven?
Did she get fired by ‘The View’ producers?
Raven’s prolonged absence has raised questions about her future with the show. And while there is no evidence that execs want Raven out, we told ya more than 100K fans signed a petition to get her kicked off the show!.
Raven returned to ‘The View’ on Wednesday after a two-week absence. She last appeared on the show for Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Jan. 18. Later that week, host Whoopi Goldberg said that Raven had been ill. But after a few more days, fans started flooding the show’s Facebook page asking what happened.
“So is raven out? please explain…” wrote Drcarlo White. Added Cynthia Catherine MacCormack Roobol, “Where is Raven, why has she been absent from the View table?”
Instead of being on ‘The View,’ Raven-Symone was traveling. Her Twitter page reveals that she just filmed an episode of ‘Black-ish.’ And she just visited nail stylist Terrance Terry in Atlanta.
Even during her absence, Raven-Symone’s name still appeared in the opening credits of ‘The View,’ and on the ABC website. So there was no indication that she had been fired. But many were hoping her absence was permanent.
“I know I will get hate comments but I have really liked the show since Raven have been absent,” wrote Adrianne Gant. “I hope she is well but the show have been 100% better without her with all due respect.”
Charles J. Saunders XV agreed: “I’m glad that she’s gone!! Less idiocy to listen to!!”
And Jan LaBarge wrote, “The 5 ladies hosting today need to be permanent!! Whoopi [Goldberg], Joy [Behar], Candace [Cameron-Bure], Paula [Faris] and Sara [Haines] have the right chemistry!! The show is so much better without Raven and Michel[l]e [Collins].”
Indeed, Raven-Symone has been a polarizing figure throughout her stint on ‘The View.’ She has already faced several controversies in just her first few months on the job. Back in October, she claimed she wouldn’t hire someone with a “ghetto” name. A week later, she was criticized again for saying the victim of the Spring Valley High School assault was partly to blame for what happened.
“The girl was told multiple times to get off the phone. There’s not right or reason for him to be doing this type of harm, that’s ridiculous,” she said. “But at the same time, you gotta follow the rules in school. First of all, why are there cellphones in school? This shouldn’t even be a problem to begin with, and he [the school officer] shouldn’t have been acting like that on top of it.”
ABC stood by Raven at the time, but the controversies just continued. In December, guest host NeNe Leakes slammed ‘The View’ hosts for acting rude during her visit. She accused Raven of looking at her “real nasty-like.”
Most recently, Raven-Symone came under fire again for her comments on the term “African-American.” Raven agreed with co-host Whoopi Goldberg, who said she considered herself an American, not an African-American. “I’m an American!” Raven said. “I’ve been here too long to not just hold American.”
Raven actually made a similar comment back in 2014 that also led to heavy backlash. But her polarizing opinions are just what producers need to bring some life back into ‘The View.’
